Plates.  The Special Boat Squadron after World War Two came into prominence in the Falklands conflict and operated in parallel with the S.A.S. Each Service personnel a specialist. £8

The result is that the report containsinformation on the Gurkhas not normally found in other books.  Contains a rear pullout map in colour. £15

20 Malcolm  C.A.   THE PIPER IN PEACE AND WAR   Pub Murray 1927. 1st Ed. Bk v.g. with some foxing and this is normal on the paper used. Green boards with piper thereon. pp 278. Plates.  The history of the piper and gives the noteworthy ones.  Has biographies of the well known pipers of the Scottish Regiments and their involvement in the Battle Theatres ( WW1 ) etc.  Excellent detail. £35
21 Linklater  Eric   THE DEFENCE OF CALAIS   Army at War Series  Pub HMSO 1941.  Booklet v.g.  pp 36.  The Defence of Calais while the British Expeditionary Force was fighting a rear guard action.  The Units engaged in this action are : 60th Rifles,  The Rifle Brigade and Queen Victoria's Rifles. Gives details of the various encounters and gives some of the names of those involved. This booklet is, along with item 24 is of interest to anyone contemplating an Army career as this publication follows Brig. Nicholson making fast moving decisions in reaction to enemy actions showing the qualities required at the Front Line.  Item 24 concentrates on the decisions being made at Corps level and who made them.  £5

DENHOLM  K.O.S.B. and dedicated to THE GALLANT EIGHTH ARMY   Pub for Cowal Highland Gathering - Dunoon by Bayley and Ferguson 54 Queen's St. Glasgow and 2 Great Marlborough St. London.  Marked ' Proceeds from the sale will be devoted to comfort fund of the 51ST( HIGHLAND ) DIVISION'.  The front sheet is illustrated with a Highland soldier in kilt with Indian and other figures thereon. and a tank in the background. It is marked copyright 1944.  The rear sheet also gives the drum setting by Drum Major A. Douglas Hamilton late Seaforth Highlanders. £10
23 Messenger  Charles   THE COMMANDOS 1940 - 1946   Pub Kimber 1985. 1st Ed. Bk v.g. DW v.g. one small tear repair.  pp 446. Plates.  Foreword by Brig. Peter Young.  This is an excellent book on the subject. At the start each Commando Company consisted of  21 Officers and 268 other Ranks. No 1 Company was formed on 20th April 1940 at Martock, Somerset from 52nd Lowland Div.  OC was Captain J Ballantyne, Cameronians and later Major A.C.W. May  HLI. Similar details are given about the other Companies formed. It is this type of detail which makes it worthwhile having. £12

The book is noteworthy in that it gives the history of the various Battles and gives by name the Regiments involved with the names of the Officers and sometime other Ranks. It includes Honours and Awards. At Rorke's Drift it gives the 2nd Battalion 24th ( 2ns Warwickshires ) Regiment of Foot by name. Similar detail through out the book. £9

This is the 2nd reprint Ed. of Harbottle's edition of 1904 and brought up to date.   this was a special one produced for a Granada bookclub and the book is bound in green leather with gold lettering.   A first class reference book for military history consultation. £10

Plates.  The history of Artillery.  One of the good things about the book is that there are chapters devoted to the part played by the Artillery in the War in the Desert  in WW 2 etc. when normally they are mixed up with other Units. £10

53 Carver  Michael   OUT OF STEP : The Memoirs of Field Marshal Lord Carver   Pub Hutchinson 1989. 1st Ed. Bk v.g. DW v.g.  pp 550. Plates.  Carver was an extra ordinary person being a Lieutenant at the age of 24 and a Brigade Commander at 29. It covers Tank warfare in North Africa, Italy and North West Europe. A book recommended to those who want a career in the army and want to achieve high Rank.  A very nice copy. £10
54 ARMY HISTORICAL RESEARCH JOURNAL   No 210 of Vol. 12. 1974.  Journal v.g. pp 130.  The interesting article in the Journal is the Raising Of Four Regiments For India in 1787. It gives the names of the Officers for 1. Campbell's Regiment the 74th.later to become the H.L.I. 2. Abercromby's Regiment the 75th. later to become the Gordon Highlanders. 3. Musgrave's Regiment the 76th. later the Duke of Wellingtons 4. Marsh's Regiment the 77th. The Middlesex Regiment. Such details are difficult to get elsewhere. £5
